Demon Angel

This drawing is a personal study based on Boullogne’s angels, but filtered through the lens of a darker myth — that of the demon angel. I was fascinated by the elegance and theatrical movement in Boullogne’s figures, especially the way they seem to hover between earth and heaven. In this sketch, I wanted to preserve that grace while introducing a subtle tension — a sense that the angel might be falling, or already has.
The contrasts of charcoal and white chalk on toned paper allowed me to explore this duality: the divine light clinging to a form that’s beginning to darken. The figure’s posture and the movement in the drapery are meant to suggest struggle, not peace — a being caught in transformation, no longer fully angel, not yet entirely demon.
It’s a study not only of form, but of mythology and emotion — how the sacred can fracture, and how beauty persists even in exile.
