Study of an angel

By studying one of Tiepolo’s angels seated on a cloud, I wanted to tap into that sense of peace and otherworldliness. I worked in monochrome to focus on the essential flow of light and form, echoing the effortless movement that artists of the period used to suggest the supernatural. The gentle posture, serene expression, and soft drapery all speak to an ideal of angelic calm that, in the 18th century, was as much a moral guide as a work of beauty.
